Many of the above countries have established sub-centres and all participants receive a certificate for participating in the programme for that year.

An education coordinator, appointed by the neurological society, is responsible for the organisation of the programme in his or her country. Continuum, which is generously donated to the programme by the American Academy of Neurology, is comprised of specially-designed, problem-based interactive courses which are available on-line through the AAN website (www.aan.com). Alternatively, for countries where web-based facilities are limited, member countries can receive two free mailings a year of three titles of Continuum.

Coordinator-led discussion groups enhance the effectiveness of the courses giving individuals the opportunity to emphasize and relate the relevance of the courses to their daily clinical practice. This opportunity to access information that may have been previously unavailable to them, along with the benefits of well-organised discussion groups, accelerate the learning experience and enhance the courses for all participants and coordinators too.

The progress of the programme in each country is monitored by the WFN through participant evaluations, which are completed at the end of each discussion group. Through these evaluations yearly certificates are generated. Responses to date have been very positive with all comments from the participants fed back into the programme to further enhance its value to member countries.

New countries wishing to participate in the programme are welcome. Further details are available from Helen Gallagher, WFN Programme Manager (email: helenme.gallagher@virgin.net; fax: +44 208450 5671).
