21 January 2010 - The World Federation of Neurology Medals

WFN medals - for service to international neurology and scientific achievement in neurology - will next be presented at the 2011 World Congress of Neurology in Marrakesh, Morocco. Each award also carries an honorarium of $5,000.

Nominations for these prestigious awards are now invited from WFN members, seconded by at least 5 neurologists three of whom should be from other WFN member societies. The nominated individual should have given his or her consent to the nomination and a citation of no more than 300 words in support of the nomination should accompany the proposal.

All nominations should be sent to the Medal Committee, c/o the WFN London Office, to arrive by 16 April 2010.

 

18 January 2010 - WFN Elections 2010

In accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the World Federation of Neurology, the election of one new Trustee will take place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Council of Delegates later this year.

If you wish to propose a candidate, please be in touch with either your national society or WFN Delegate (whose name appears on the WFN website – www.wfneurology.org). Names of those who are willing to serve and who receive the official support of their national society must arrive at the WFN London headquarters office by Friday, 19th February, 2010.

The names of candidates will be published. It is open to anyone to make additional nominations by securing the supporting signatures of five or more authorized WFN Delegates and submitting the name(s) of the individual(s) in question to the Secretary-Treasurer General, c/o the WFN Headquarters office, at least thirty days prior to the date of the Council of Delegates’ Annual General Meeting

 

1 December 2009 - WFN Elections 2009 - Results

The Annual General Meeting of the Council of Delegates took place on 25th October during the World Congress of Neurology in Bangkok, Thailand. One item of business on the agenda was the election of new officers and a Trustee. Professor Vladimir Hachinski from London, Ontario in Canada was chosen to be the new President of the WFN for a 4-year term from 1st January 2010, succeeding Dr Johan Aarli; Professor Werner Hacke from Heidelberg, Germany was elected as First Vice-President; Dr Raad Shakir, Consultant Neurologist from Charing Cross Hospital, London was re-elected unopposed as Secretary-Treasurer General for a further 4 years from 1st January 2011; and Professor Wolfgang Grisold from Vienna, Austria became an Elected Trustee to serve for a 3-year period.

 

WFN Medals

Also at the World Congress the WFN awarded two new medals for the first time, one for Achievement in Neurology and the other for Services to International Neurology. The former was presented to Professor Roger Rosenberg of the Southwestern Medical School, University of Texas Medical Center in Dallas; the latter to Professor Noshir H Wadia from India.
