Research Advances in Neurology

The mission of the Research Committee as established by the World Federation of Neurology is "to improve the health of patients with neurological disease, particularly in developing countries, through the formation and support of international Research Groups."

There are currently thirty Research Groups in the Research Committee. All of the major subspeciality areas in neurology are represented and there is a good international representation in its membership. The Committee’s broad mandate indicates that it is its role specifically to promote research that will lead to effective therapies for the treatment and prevention of neurological disease. It is therefore appropriate that the Research Committee has taken as its operating objective the theme "New and Emerging Neuro-Therapeutics: The Result of Basic and Clinical Research".

On this page of the WFN web site, "Research Advances in Neurology", each Research Group will submit annually a mini-review of research advances in their field. The emphasis will be on neuro-therapeutics, including basic science advances to explain potential new therapies on the horizon or clinical trials that show effectiveness; therapies that prevent neurological disease; therapies for diseases that are important to developing countries, with special reference to those that are readily available and inexpensive; and key references.

In this way, on an annual basis, the WFN Research Groups will provide on-line, up-to-date, neuro-therapeutic advances for easy access and downloading.
