WFN – The Turkish Neurological Society: 3rd Department Visit Program- 2016

The World Federation of Neurology (WFN) and the Turkish Neurological Society are pleased to announce a new partnership to invite three colleagues from Africa to visit the Neurology departments of the Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, the Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, and the Selcuk University Faculty of Medicine.

The Turkish Neurological Society was founded in 1992 and is an active society engaged in training and improving the structure and quality of neurology in Turkey.

The WFN was formed in Brussels in 1957 as an association of national neurological societies. Today, the WFN represents 119 professional societies in 118 countries in all regions of the world. The mission of the WFN is to foster quality neurology and brain health worldwide, a goal we seek to achieve by promoting global neurological education and training, with the emphasis placed firmly on under-resourced parts of the world.

 

Project description

The Turkish Neurological Society supports the African initiative of the WFN by inviting three African colleagues to visit the Departments of Neurology of Istanbul University, Gazi University, and Selcuk University for a duration of four weeks. The purpose is to experience the Turkish neurological system in an international environment, meet new colleagues, and foster future cooperation.

1) University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine

The Neurology Department of the Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1946 and is located in one of the most historic buildings in Istanbul near Topkapi Palace.

Services and specialty clinics include: Inpatient Clinic, Outpatient Clinic, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebrovascular Diseases, Headache, Epilepsy, Vertigo, Neuropathy, Parkinson, Dementia, Sleep Disorders, Polysomnography, EEG, EMG, and Botulinum toxin applications. 

 

2) Gazi University Facultly of Medicine

The Neurology Department in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1979 in downtown Ankara. It is one of the major medical facilities in Ankara.

Services and specialty clinics include: General Neurology, Headache, Neuropathic Pain, Dementia , Epilepsy, Movement Disorders and Parkinson Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular Diseases, Cerebrovascular Polyclinic, Botulinum toxin applications, Inpatient service, intensive care and intermediate intensive care, EEG laboratory, EMG laboratory, and transcranial Doppler Ultrasound (TCD).

 

4) Selcuk University Faculty of Medicine (Konya)

The Neurology Department in Secuk University Faculty of Medicine was founded in 2009 in Selcuk, Konya. It is one of the major Medicine facilities in the Mid-Anatolian region of Turkey.

Services and specialty clinics include: Neurological ICU Unit, Stroke Unit, Inpatient service, Cerebrovascular Diseases, Headache, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Vertigo, Neuropathy, Parkinson, Dementia, Sleep Disorders, Polysomnography, EEG, EMG, Botulinum toxin applications. 

The date of the visit will be in November 2016. The three fellows will receive complimentary registration to attend the Turkish National Congress taking place from 22 November - 1 December, Antalya.

 

Details about support

The Turkish Neurological Society will provide the following support:

  • Travel expenses: Country of Residence – Turkey– Country of Residence
  • Accommodation for four weeks in November 2016
  • Living expenses (food and beverage) during the four weeks
  • Costs of health insurance during the stay in Turkey

 

Criteria for applications

  • The applicant must be a resident of a low or lower-middle income country in the African continent
  • The applicant must be born after 31.12.1976
